Most of Julie’s paintings are painted in the indirect manner which means her paintings consist of many layers applied over time – sometimes months.

Julie uses only Gamblin oil paints, mediums and solvents, which are all locally made in SE Portland. She strives to create paintings whose production has as little impact on the environment and her body as possible. A key component is the use of Gamsol, a low odor mineral spirit solvent produced by Gamblin. Julie uses only Gamsol solvent in her studio. The removal of turpentine and painting mediums containing dammar resin varnish have produced a studio with low toxicity. Julie reuses and recycles Gamsol according to Gamblin guidelines. She also recycles the aluminum paint tubes and used alkyd mediums.

Gambiln is unique in that the company provides extensive technical support and information for artists. For more detailed information on Gamblin products and their production, check out their web site. www.gamblincolors.com
